What's Up With Gangs

Tonight our teen Bible study took a turn away from the planned lesson when several of you raised questions about gangs.

I asked youthis question,

"Why do people want to join a gang"?

Here are the answers that were given.

1) Bad Family (a lot of problems at home)

2) Bad Location (living in a bad neighborhood)

3) Bad Clothes (to look cool)

4) To be accepted

5) To have a life

6) To be like others

7) To get respect

8) To be like a Celebrity

9) Love of violence

I am pleased with the thoughtfulness of these answers. Theses answers show a certain level of logical understanding of the motivation for joining a gain.

We just got started discussing all these things but there is one point I want to make clear.

The Christian does not need a gang in order to fulfill all that he needs. Most of the needs a person has for a social family setting can and should fulfilled through the church!
